Remarks 'Morue' (variant 'molue') of obscure origins; maybe from Celt 'mer'; and Old French 'luz' from Old Latin 'lucius' (p. 477 in Ref. 9404, see also 'gade' and 'brochet'); 'polaire', i.e., polar, from Medieval Latin 'polaris' which is related to pole from Latin 'polus' and Greek 'polos' (p. 582 in Ref. 9404).
