| Remarks | 'alluuxuune', i.e., general name given to members of this group which may be long or short in body length but which have the same color, shape of head and mouth (Diabé Sow). Fish migrate from the river to flood pools forming in its aflluents to spawn in nests (Sadjo Dramé). The nests are laid at the foot of 'fa' or of 'jebe' and most often of a black 'fa'. The fertilized eggs are guarded by both male and female fish (Hamet Camara). The female goes to the water surface and disturbs it to aerate the water above the nest while the male stays below to guard the eggs until they hatch and is never seen (Moussa Dia). The juveniles are on their own after hatching. Nocturnal fishing with hook and line is refferred to as 'wurun goriye' (Diabé Sow). |
