Remarks 'Mérou' from Spanish 'mero' (p. 1186 in Ref. 11853); 'neige', i.e., snow, replaced Old French 'neif, noif' from Latin 'nix, nivis' (p. 490 in Ref. 9404); must refer to the color of the fish, e.g. white as snow. Also Ref. 171, 56807, 82178, 87040, 90062, 93840, 95632.
