Remarks | Inhabits shallow seagrass flats near mangrove areas. Migrates to one of the twenty known locations along the outer edge of fringing or barrier reefs. This migration is abrupt; sometimes ocurring overnight. According to Ngiraklang, known to be a knowledgeable fisher, females arrive at the spawning site before the males. According to fishers, actual spawning starts three to six days after the new moon but the number of spawning fish peaks on the third day. They are regarded as 'stupid' spawners by locals because they are easily approached while in their aggregations. |
