Remarks Name used in Ref. 10161 where the species was called Lumpenus anguillaris. 'eel' from Middle English, 'ele', from Old English 'ael' and akin to Old High German, 'ãl' (Ref. 11978); 'blenny' from Latin 'blennius', i.e., a sea fish (Ref. 11978), from Greek 'blennos', i.e., slime, a fish allied to 'kôbios'.
