 Family:  Halosauridae (Halosaurs)
 Max. size:  50.8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range 2690 - 5029 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Western Sahara and along the eastern slope of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge from 7°-5°N. Western Atlantic: off Bahamas and west of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
 Diagnosis:  Insertion of the pelvic fins well in advance of the origin of the dorsal fin. Separation of palatine tooth patches on the midline and disc-like lateral line plaques (Ref. 37108). Light colored, the lower part of the head and the gill cover black, abdominal region blackish. Lining of mouth is dark (Ref. 37108).
 Biology:  Inhabits the abyssal depths (Ref. 4448).
