 Family:  Percidae (Perches), subfamily: Etheostomatinae
 Max. size:  7.3 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal
 Distribution:  North America: Mississippi River basin from western Kentucky and southeastern Missouri south to southern Mississippi and west to eastern Oklahoma and Texas in the USA, and in Gulf drainages from Pascagoula River in Mississippi to San Jacinto River in Texas.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Inhabits sandy runs of creeks, small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723) and streams (Ref. 10294). Feeds mainly on midge larvae and entomostracans (Ref. 79012).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
