 Family:  Tetraodontidae (Puffers), subfamily: Tetraodontinae
 Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated
 Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea. Very closely related to and considered by some authors conspecific with the Indo-Pacific Arothron nigropunctatus (Bloch & Schneider).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Inhabits coral-rich fringing reefs (Ref. 9710).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
