 Family:  Opisthoproctidae (Barreleyes or spookfishes)
 Max. size:  58 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; depth range 400 - 800 m, oceanodromous
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: off Azores Island. Northeast Pacific: British Columbia, Canada (Ref. 11980) to central California (Ref. 35626). Northwest Pacific: Kashimanada Sea, Japan (Ref. 559).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-14; Vertebrae: 78-84. Branchiostegal rays: 2.
 Biology:  Oceanic. Eggs and larvae are pelagic (Ref. 6885). Oviparous (Ref. 35626). Bathypelagic at about 400-800 m (Ref. 96339). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
