 Family:  Haemulidae (Grunts), subfamily: Haemulinae
 Max. size:  33.6 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 588.0 g
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 1 - 100 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Texas and eastern Florida (USA) and Jamaica to Brazil. Including western Gulf of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles, Central and South American coasts (Ref. 26938). Also found in Argentina (Ref. 86320).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7
 Biology:  Found along sandy shores and over shallow muddy bottoms (Ref. 3798). Feeds at night on crustaceans and small fishes (Ref. 3798). Marketed fresh (Ref. 3798).
