 Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
 Max. size:  24.4 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic
 Distribution:  Africa: widely distributed in Lake Malawi and in lagoons, upper Shire River and the mouth of larger rivers.
 Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: deeper bodied than D. kiwinge; premaxillary pedicel rather prominent, giving the dorsal head profile a more concave appearance above the eye (Ref. 55954).
 Biology:  Encountered usually in shallow water in vegetated and sandy areas. Swims in midwater. Feeds on small fish (such as juvenile Utaka) and invertebrates (Ref. 5595).
