 Family:  Bothidae (Lefteye flounders)
 Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 7 - 200 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: East Africa and throughout the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Australian Archipelago and New Caledonia, north to southern Japan.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 79-87; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 59-65. A pair of jet-black blotches on caudal fin placed between 3rd and 4th rays counted from above and below respectively. Body deep, its depth more than 1/2 of SL. Pectoral fin short, equal to or less than head length. In male, body on blind side stained with dark-gray. Description: Characterized further by pale brown color, finely mottled and spotted with dark brown, orange-yellow and white; ctenoid scales on eyed side, cycloid on blind side; short gill rakers; anterior edge of upper eye above middle of lower eye; upper jaw extended to below front edge of lower eye; biserial teeth in upper jaw, enlarged anteriorly; uniserial teeth on lower jaw; depth of body 1.6-2.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Found on sandy and muddy areas of the continental shelf. Feeds on crustaceans, polychaetes, and other benthic animals (Ref. 9824). Marketed fresh and sometimes dried (Ref. 9824).
