 Family:  Sternoptychidae (Marine hatchetfishes), subfamily: Maurolicinae
 Max. size:  5.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range 0 - 200 m
 Distribution:  Southwest Atlantic: Known along the continental slope of South America.
 Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 33-34
 Biology:  A mesopelagic species occurring over the continental slope at about 200 m depth, coming to near the surface at night.
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
