 Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
 Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 45 - 230 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New Jersey and northern Gulf of Mexico to southern Florida in USA and Cuba.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Have a thick glandular tissue on posterior margin of fin spines which is believed to be venomous (Ref. 57406).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  venomous
