 Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
 Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Portugal and the Azores. Mediterranean Sea: apparently most common in the Adriatic Sea and the western Mediterranean.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in coastal waters (Ref. 6733). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
 IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
