 Family:  Pinguipedidae (Sandperches)
 Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 6 - 55 m
 Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea to South Africa and Pakistan.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-22; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 18-18. Body bluish white, with 9 dark brown bars ventrally; belly white; black blotch at base of upper caudal rays and a less distinct blotch at base of lower caudal rays (Ref. 5401).
