 Family:  Percidae (Perches), subfamily: Etheostomatinae
 Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic
 Distribution:  North America: found only in the USA in Mobile Bay, Pascagoula River and Pearl River drainages of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in fast, deep rocky riffles of small to medium rivers. Giant of the darters.
 IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
