 Family:  Peristediidae (Armored searobins or armored gurnards)
 Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 64 - 910 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Georges Bank and northern Gulf of Mexico to Brazil; absent from West Indies.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found mostly on the continental slope.
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
