 Family:  Polymixiidae (Beardfishes)
 Max. size:  47.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 18 - 585 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands, north to Japan, south to Australia.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 28-31; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 14-16. Dusky greenish above, silvery below; caudal dusky (Ref. 6624).
 Biology:  Benthic (Ref. 58302). Inhabits sandy and muddy areas (Ref. 9137).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
