 Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
 Max. size:  28 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic; depth range 223 - 369 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Indonesia, New Caledonia, Philippines, Vanuatu and Wallis & Futuna Is. (Ref. 86966). Widespread throughout the region and conspecific with Pontinus tentacularisand possibly Pontinus macrocephalus (Poss, pers. comm.).
 Diagnosis:
