 Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Leuciscinae
 Max. size:  6 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 2 years
 Environment:  benthopelagic
 Distribution:  North America: found in the Red and Ouachita River drainage lowlands of southern Arkansas, Louisiana and northeastern Texas, USA. Also found in Wolf Lake, southwest Illinois. Localized and uncommon (Ref. 5723).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Inhabits backwaters, oxbows and sluggish pools of creeks and small rivers, usually near vegetation over mud or sand (Ref. 5723).
 IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
