 Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
 Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 1,600.0 g
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 8 - 40 m, non-migratory
 Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea to South Africa. Presence in Somalia to be confirmed (Ref. 30573).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Inhabits steep outer reef slopes (Ref. 9710). Solitary and wary species (Ref. 9710). Caught with nets and other kinds of artisanal gear. Mainly sold fresh.
