 Family:  Sebastidae (Rockfishes, rockcods and thornyheads), subfamily: Sebastinae
 Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 800.0 g
 Environment:  demersal, oceanodromous
 Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: southern Hokkaido to Kyushu and the southern Korean Peninsula (Ref. 559). Three morphotypes observed (reddish type; blackish type; brownish type), and may be reproductively isolated from each other (Ref. 44259).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed. Plankton feeder (Ref. 12114, 12115). Viviparous (Ref. 34817).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
