 Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
 Max. size:  200 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 100 kg; max. reported age: 15 years
 Environment:  benthopelagic; depth range - 10 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Gulf of California. Formerly abundant, now threatened by extinction due to fishing and habitat change (Ref. 27438). International trade banned (CITES I, since 4.2.1977).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found in coastal waters; juveniles in river mouths and near rocky coasts (Ref. 9118). Feed on fishes and shrimps (Ref. 9118).
 IUCN Red List Status: Critically Endangered (A2bcd) (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
