 Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
 Max. size:  70 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 1 - 450 m
 Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Western Indian Ocean extending eastward to the Indo-Malayan archipelago and northern Australia.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8
 Biology:  Found in a wide range of bottoms. Young fish occur in very shallow waters of sheltered bays; larger individuals in deeper water. Feed on benthic invertebrates, mainly mollusks (Ref. 5213). Important food fish.
