Definition of Term

countershading
(english) Common color pattern of organisms in the water column that are dark-colored on top but light-colored on the bottom. This effect may be increased in some organisms by bioluminescent organs on the ventral surface. (See also: water column, bioluminescence, ventral)
(portuguese) Padrão de pigmentação comum nos organismos que vivem na coluna de água e que consiste numa coloração escura em cima e clara em baixo.
