Definition of Term

transverse
(english) From side to side; extending across. In a fish, perpendicular to the long axis of the body; directed crosswise, across the width (the opposite of longitudinal). For example, transverse scales is the row of scales from anal fin origin to dorsal fin (or middle of back). (See also: longitudinal)
transversal
(french) Chez les poissons, perpendiculaire au long axe du corps ; dirigé diagonalement, en travers la largeur ; antonyme de longitudinal. (See also: longitudinal)
transverso
(portuguese) Nos peixes, perpendicular ao eixo maior do corpo; na largura (contrário a longitudinal). (See also: longitudinal)
