  Etymology of Generic name : 
 
Greek, mikros = small + Greek, physa = to blow + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).
Etymology of specific name : 
 
Specific epithet is derived from the Latin nudus (naked) and ventris(belly), in allusion to the scalesless midventral region of the body which extends slightly more than two-thirds of the distance between the pectoral- and pelvic-fin insertions. Used as a noun.
