Relative common in a variety of habitats including tannin-stained creeks in lowland rainforest, larger streams in more open areas and mountain tributaries to an elevation of about 400 m above sea level. Occurs in quiet shaded pools, as well as sunlit sections of larger streams and relatively fast-flowing mountain streams.
