Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9. Second dorsal fin high. Snout slender, terminal scute elongated and sharp (when complete). Underside of head naked. Nasal fossa naked dorsal to suborbital ridge. Horizontal diameter of orbit one-quarter or less of head length, about 1.6-2.2 into snout length. Anterolateral snout margin incompletely supported by bone. Body scales large, with 5-7 parallel to slightly divergent spinule rows. Light organ long, extending from just behind isthmus to before anus. Anus immediately anterior to anal fin. Body with prominent dark bands; first dorsal fin black tipped (Ref. 33374).
