Vertebrae: 88 - 94. Gymnelus soldatovi belongs to the group of species with a complete supratemporal commissure. It is further characterized by a high number of vertebrae, cylindrical body, relatively wide head, big snout and small gill opening, wide pectoral fin, and small size (Ref. 36338).
