Vertebrae: 26. Pterygiophore formula 3-12210; having only 1 anal-fin pterygiophore anterior to first haemal spine. Absence of the following: Y-shaped second anal-fin pterygiophore, chin barbels, scales, raised dermal folds or ridges, and cephalic sensory canals and pores. Short pleural ribs posteriorly directed. Vertical mouth large; lips fleshy especially at rictus. Eyes rudimentary, but distinct; covered by skin. Posterior naris lateral to, and slightly anterior to, eye. Anterior naris at tip of small flap of skin overhanging upper jaw. Dorsal-fin base long and broadly joined with caudal fin; anal-fin membrane also broadly joined with caudal fin. Pectoral fin margin rounded posteriorly. Pelvic fin with well-developed frenum and connecting membrane forming cup-shaped disc. Caudal fin slightly longer than head. Head depressed with a slightly compressed body. (Ref. 45979).
