Etymology: Lubbockichthys: After Roger Lubbrock, Cambridge University; he died in Brazil in a car accident in 1981. He described and discovered many species in the Rea Sea in 1970 and early 80´s;  myersi: Named for Robert F, Myers..   More on author: Gill.

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 15; Vertebrae: 32. This species is distinguished from its congeners in having a very slender body, with greatest body depth 15.8 % SL and depth at dorsal-fin origin 15.3 % SL). It also has a higher number of vertebrae (14 + 18) (Ref. 76877).

The species was observed (by R. Myers) to hover within half a meter of the side of the cave (the cave with a large chimney with 3-4 m opening in a shelf about 20 m, and a large opening in the adjacent wall from about 36 to at least 50 m). Seeks refuge (darts) into a hole when approached within 2-3 meters (Ref. 76877).
