Goals and Objectives: |
The objective of this Convention is to restrict and prohibit the use of driftnets in the South Pacific region in order to conserve marine living resources. To this end, the parties agree to take measures not to encourage the use of driftnets by prohibiting their use and the transshipment of catches, by driftnet processing or import of products to and from driftnet catches and possession of driftnets and by restricting access of vessels using driftnets to ports. The Convention also foresees the South Pacific Forum Fishery Agency (FFA) to coordinate the implementation of the Convention. |
