Goals and Objectives: |
HELCOM was established under the Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Baltic Sea Area, 1974. The objectives of this Commission are: to keep the implementation of the Convention under continuous observation; to make recommendations on measures relating to the purpose of the Convention and to keep under review the contents of the Convention. The purpose of the Convention is to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution, both from land and from ships as well as airborne. The Baltic sea area shall be the Baltic Sea proper with the Gulf of Bothnia, the Gulf of Finland and the entrance to the Baltic Sea. |
