A dwarf species which differs from all other species of the genus by the conspicuous color pattern of the caudal fin of the male (lower half black with 1-3 hyaline spots and a broad hyaline lower margin; upper half with a broad longitudinal orange stripe, a broad submarginal black stripe and a hyaline upper margin) and by the large extent of black pigments on the dorsal and caudal fins (Ref. 26721).
