Issue on validity of subspecies: subspecies considered as valid in FB, elevated to species rank as Auxis eudorax Collette & Aadland, 1996 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). Please send references, or more studies are needed.

Short description
Morphology | Morphometrics
Body elongate, robust, and rounded; dorsal fins widely separated; second dorsal fin followed by 8 finlets; pectoral fins short, not reaching front of naked area above corselet; scales only on corselet section; each side of caudal peduncle bearing a strong keel between two smaller keels; back dark bluish purple; head almost black; 15 or more vertical bars on naked dorsal region (Ref. 55763).
