Etymology: Bryconamericus: Greek, bryko = to bite + America, latinized (Ref. 45335);  patriciae: Named in honor to the author's wife, Patricia L. Gonçalves.

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Distinguished from other species of Bryconamericus from southern South America by the combination of the following characters: body depth 25.5-30.3% SL, mean 28.0; head length 25.2-27.6% SL, mean 26.3; pelvic fin length 11.0-14.4% SL, mean 12.5; branched anal-fin rays 14-18; teeth of outer row of premaxilla regularly implanted; teeth of inner row of premaxilla pentacuspid; teeth compressed distally; and males with bony hooks on pelvic and anal fins (Ref. 54750).

Inhabits rivers and creeks with clear water, light to strong water current and bottom formed by rocks, stones and in some points gravel and sand (Ref. 54750). Usually occurs in pools below the rapids (Ref. 54750).
