Etymology: Tylochromis: Greek, tylos = callus + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335);  elongatus: Named in reference to the relatively elongate, gracile body form of the adult specimens of the species (Ref. 52346).

Dorsal spines (total): 14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 28. Diagnosis: 15-16 gill-rakers along lower limb of first arch; 36-38 lateral line scales (count started on upper line and continued on lower line, including the intermediate scales); an extremely robust lower pharyngeal jaw with mill-like molariform teeth occupying 2/3 of the dentigerous surface (Ref. 52346).

Probably a benthic macrophage (Ref. 52346). Seems to feed mainly on insects and insect larvae (Ref. 52307).
