Etymology: Gnathophis: Greek, gnathos = jaw + Greek, ophis = serpent (Ref. 45335).
Issue
This species is synonym of Gnathophis heterognathos (Bleeker 1858-59) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Karmovskaya (2004: Ref. 54804). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
