This species is distinguished by the following characters: vertebrae 46, dorsal fin rays 43; A approx. 37; small mouth with upper jaw ca. 26% HL, its angle 70-80°; mandibular teeth small, simple sharp canines; premaxillary teeth tiny, irregularly arranged, near symphysis only; opercular flap small, gill opening short; body not humpbacked, spine straight (Ref. 92437).
